Course:
NVQ Level 2 & 3
It is anticipated that students
attending a day-release course, whilst being employed, would
achieve Level 2 in approximately two years and Level 3 by
the end of the fourth year.
The content of the course aims to provide
the trainee with the skill and knowledge to obtain all the
relevant NVQ assessments. There are no formal examinations
as each Unit of assignment is assessed against an industrial
criteria. Each NVQ is made up of Units all of which have
to be passed to qualify for a NVQ Certificate.
Course Content: NVQ Level 2
Plan and prepare to meet customers identified needs
for routine maintenance.
Deactivate/reactivate systems and test systems for
operation.
Maintain system components for optimum performance.
Maintain the safe working environment.
Maintain effective working relationships.
NVQ Level 3
Plan to rectify/modify systems to meet customers requirements.
Decommission and re-commission systems.
Rectify system failure and modify systems to meet customer
requirements.
Contribute to quality developments and improvement
of products and
service
.

Costs:All
College Fees, NVQ Registration and allied costs are met
by GBCT
from Government Funding under the Jobskills/Modern Apprenticeship
Schemes.
Progress: GBCT Training
Adviser will carry out at least two Progress Visits at College
and three on Site annually. A written report will be given
to the Trainee
with a copy to the employer.
Who pays?
All College Fees,
NVQ Registration Assessment and Examination Fees are met
by us from Government Funding.
As an employed Trainee
your employer will be responsible for paying your wages
and agreeing with you the terms and conditions of your employment.
What Qualification?
NVQs are a nationally recognised qualification.
There are several levels, but initially you will be studying
for Levels 2 and 3. Each Level is made up of Units which
are assessed both at College and in the workplace.
Trained where?
Training will be
ongoing throughout your training period within the workplace
under supervision.
In addition you will be
required to attend College training in your chosen field
on a day-release basis. The College you attend will be dependant
on the field you choose.
Pay & Conditions
An apprentice's wages are paid by the employer.
However, rates of pay, overtime, travelling time, holidays,
grievance procedures and general welfare benefits are determined
by the JIB.
Safety
Electricity needs careful handling. Safety
procedures are strictly observed in the industry and are
constantly stressed during the training.
